The Real-life Chess

I remember the day while sitting in the front seat of the car, I saw a culturally decorated truck. The amazing thing about that truck was that there was a quote written on its back, and it was about chess.

“We play chess only with ourselves, playing tricks with others is not in our culture.

I thought about this quote the whole day because I used to play chess a lot and I like it a lot. And then I realized that everyone is playing chess in their life; I will explain how. Starting with student life, students study to get the first position either through their hard work or by cheating with bribes. A businessman wants to generate a high profit. No matter, if he generates it by fraud, money laundering, or tax evasion, he just wants a good position for their business in the market. Political leaders do crimes or efforts only for the presidential chair. We, individuals play tricks with others to get some position in life.

First of all, let me tell you how to play chess.

In chess, both players take turns, making a single move in each turn. Players cannot choose to skip a turn; they must move a piece. Each chess piece moves in a specific way and must be moved according to its legal movement. The legal movements are as follows:-

Pawns move one or two steps forward.
Rook can move in straight line horizontally or vertically.
Knight moves in an L shape.
Bishop moves diagonally.
Queen is the most powerful it can move in any direction.
King can move only one step in any direction.

In chess, we have to play tricks against our opponent player and checkmate them. As Bobby Fisher puts it,

“Chess is a war over the board. The object is to crush the opponent’s mind.”

The main fun fact of chess is to understand the tricks of your opponent and make tricks against them in your mind. If I lose in chess, I will not rest and will continue to play until I win.

So now, it’s your choice whether you want to play a chess game on the board or in your life, and if in life, then what role will you play? You can: be a pawn (the soldier who serves his life for a king whether a king is right or wrong, he only knows that his life is for his king), be a bishop (predator who can quickly snatch their prey; they often pretend to be a pawn so the enemy can’t notice them), be a knight (The knight is to be feared on the chessboard. If you ignore him, he might have the power to kill even the toughest of your players on the board. He is like an enemy which war from the back), be a rook (a warrior who does his job quickly and efficiently), be a Queen (it can take a face of anyone to win), be a King (who gives orders and others are only obeying him).

Chess is about making strong moves against our enemy. In life too, if we plan to do something, we need to make sure to stand our ground and fight for what we think is better. Just like in chess, we need to make tricks and take certain actions whenever there is a problem or a threat.

“MOVE IN SILENCE ONLY SPEAK WHEN IT’S TIME TO SAY CHECKMATE”

It’s an amazing idea to think of life as a game of chess. I derive some different meanings as I think about it. It makes me wonder, how we are but pieces in a majestic game of chess where we think we alone are deciding about the outcome, but instead, there is a wider destiny at the play. We must make sense of the strategies and should not show ignorance to the rules of the game. In the end, we just have to fulfill the purpose that the Majestic Hand wants us to fulfill.

Umar Khayyam has a Rubayi that says:
ما لعبتگانیم و فلک لعبت باز
از روی حقیقتی نہ از روی مجاز
یک چند درین بساط بازی کردیم
رفتیم بہ صندوق عدم یک یک باز
Which is translated in Urdu as:
یہ حقیقت ہے نہ کہ مجاز کہ ہم مہرے ہیں اور چرخِ گردوں شطرنج کی بازی کھیلنے والا
ہماری حیثیت بساطِ ہستی پر مہروں کی سی ہے جو ایک ایک کر کے عدم کے صندوق میں بند ہوتے چلے جا رہے ہیں

The Chess and life are the same to me, both depend upon our moves and decisions. What we achieve in life is the outcome of the decisions that we made in past.
    appreciated…
